Atm I am running a terrible amd 6300 six core processor for my cpu but a good graphics card (gtx 1060 6gb).I was thinking of getting an intel i5 but then I would have to get new ram and a new motherboard which would result in a worse intel cpu.So I thought to myself why not just get an amd cpu?Have any of you got any recommendations for an amd cpu?If so please leave a comment in the thread which one.Im not sure if the amd 6300 is ddr3 so please tell me if it is,I'm preferably not wanting to get a new motherboard if the amd cpu is ddr4,but if i really have to I guess I can but the cpu would have to be $200.

I think you really have to leave the FX platform in order to achieve better pairing with your GPU (as well as better upgradability). I don't see a point getting a CPU that fits your current build as the expenses for a new CPU in that platform is not worth it in terms of price/performance. Of course, migrating into a different (newer) platform means changing your CPU and your MB and your RAM.

If you want a cheap AMD build with good upgradability as well as overclockable, you'd be looking at these costs:

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 1400 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($157.49 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: ASRock - AB350M Pro4 Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard...

If you want an alternative affordable build, you can also go for an Intel non-OC'able build, such as this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel - Pentium G4560 3.5GHz Dual-Core Processor ($78.89 @ B&H)
Motherboard: MSI - Z270-A PRO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($109.89 @ OutletPC)
Memory: GeIL - EVO POTENZA 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($104.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $293.77

The Pentium G4560 (non-OCable CPU) in the above build is a place-holder (which is paired with a OC'able Z270 motherboard and OC'd RAM). The point is to upgrade the Pentium G4560 in the future to an i7-7700K once you have enough budget for that.

Considering the two CPU's mentioned above (the AMD Ryzen 5 1400 and the Pentium G4560), both of those CPUs will be able to handle your GTX 1060-6GB GPU and both are higher in performance compared to your current FX 6300:

Ryzen 5 1400 is ~40% faster in effective speed than the FX 6300: http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Ryzen-5-1400-vs-AMD-FX-6300/3922vs1555
Pentium G4560 is ~25% faster in effective speed than the FX 6300: http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Pentium-G4560-vs-AMD-FX-6300/3892vs1555

Solution
There's no real point in upgrading on fx like raisonjohn said. Slightly newer fx like the the fx 8350 will have a bit better single core performance but not enough to warrant the cost of investing further into a platform that was long overdue before ryzen came to market. You're looking to either go intel or amd's ryzen, either will require a new cpu, motherboard and ddr4 ram. You'll also need to reinstall windows. My recommendation would be to save up a bit more and upgrade to something worthwhile like a ryzen or intel build.

So to upgrade to the rizon 1600 im gonna need a new ram and motherboard? If so I can only spend about £80-100 on the ram and motherboard sop can you link me both that are around £40 each? - thanks

I agree with the others that you shouldn't put any money into the AM3+ (FX) platform. If you have a decent aftermarket CPU cooler, you could overclock your FX6300 while you save up for a new system. I got my FX6300 up to a stable 4.1Ghz with a Zalman cooler. Of course that assumes the VRM's on the motherboard can handle the overclock without getting too hot. I have one front intake fan, one rear exhaust fan, plus the PSU fan which exhausts out of the rear and good cable management inside my case.
