240mm AIO terrible tempratures

I've been having an issue with my cooler master sedion 240v. The temperatures I have been experiencing are unusually high for any cooler with a 240mm rad. My 6700k idles at stock frequency around 40 to 50 degrees. When I am gaming and utilisation is around 50 percent the temperatures reach a staggering 83 Celsius. Keep in mind this is without any kind of overclock.
I also get unusual spikes from 50 Celsius to 70 Celsius back to 50 in a second.
Have tried cleaning and reapplying thermal paste 3 times using dot and line methods. I have fastened the pump head so tight that I started fearing the motherboard would crack (loosened it again afterwards). I am unsure what to do any help would be appreciated

I'm not familiar with the cooler, but looks like it doesn't matter which orientation the block is seated on the CPU (but I'm not 100% sure on that).

Only way to tell if it makes a difference is to re-seat it. Don't worry if it doesn't fit that way. If needs be, sit the PC on it's side and have the rad/fans resting on the frame of the case just to test it.

Also, I highly recommend getting some intake fans in the front of the case.

At the moment, all you have is the negative pressure from exhausting only drawing air in to the case.

I am using that to monitor the temps. I am aware the cooler is not the best, it came free with my motherboard after all but it shouldn't be THIS bad (worse than intels stock cooler).

Is there any 'play/wobble' on the block? heatsinks should never be tightened excessively. It can result in the bracket and/or threads being damaged which can result in the heatsink not sitting correctly.

While that AIO is not up there with the high performing models, it doesn't appear to be a terrible cooler (going by the temps on several reviews).

What case do you have?
How many fans and how are they setup?
Is the AIO rad in the top or front of the case and is it exhaust or intake?

I have the radiator mounted to the top of the case in a push configuration with 2 fans. I have a bitfenix aroura and I have removed the tempered glass side of the case to allow for more ventilation. The threads are undamaged I assume as the block is fastened tight. I assume there is the problem in the pump area as the radiator doesnt get very warm.

at first glance, it certainly sounds like the pump 'might' be the issue

either performing erratically or running a lot lower than it should be

unless you've got a very high ambient temp, 40-50c at idle suggests something's up

Have you installed any fans in the front of the case and have you setup any fans curves in the bios?

I haven't got any case fans except exhaust fan. Attached the pump header to system fan slot and set to full speed in bios. I have mounted the pump head with the logo facing sideways because it is the only way it would fit in the case maybe that could be it?
