Hi, As a 'newbie' to the world of NAS need help with replacing the hard drive in my Seagate Central.
Old hard drive failed and I bought a WD Red 2.0 Tb as a replacement. Having installed the new drive, it powers up OK but, despite checking all the connections, is not recognised by my PC. Tried Seagate website and used their NAS detector software to no avail.
Had a look at installing FreeNAS but that seems over complicated and appears to need to have a monitor ??? and seems to assume that you are using an old PC so will have a video card built in.
Anyone got any bright ideas that can be explained simply?
Thanks in advance

WD drive in Seagate device?

Would not expect that to matter per se but I am wondering about the RV (rotational vibration) sensors.

"Ironwolf drive".....

Reference:

Perhaps the Seagate Central firmware looks for the sensors on the drive. If not found - no go maybe.

As for FreeNAS you do need a computer to install the software on the drive. Then you can mount the drive in another case without need for monitor, keyboard, etc....

Lots of info on the web but start with the FreeNAS site:

https://doc.freenas.org/9.10/install.html

Thanks for your help. Will give it a go despite the fact that I finally got a reply from Seagate advising that, apart from the power supply and ethernet cable, there are no user replaceable parts within a Seagate Central.
