Hi,

I've been given a friends old gaming PC for my kids. One of the fins on the GPU's fan has broken off. It is quite quiet when running in windows, but when the GPU starts to work and the fan speed increases it vibrates a lot and is very noisy.

I've looked online, but can't find a suitable replacement fan. The card is VTX Radeon HD 7870 X-Edition and has one large 85mm fan with a 2 pin connector. I think I have 2 options:

A: Remove the plastic shroud and fan and buy a cooler that mounts via a PCI slot. Assuming the fan speed will be constant and won't react when the GPU starts to heat up, thinking about something like this

B: Try and find a replacement fan online. The current fan uses a 2 pin connector, I've seen a couple of fans on eBay, in china, but they have 4 pin connectors . The card does have a 4 pin connector next to the 2 pin, question is will it work?

Any advice or 3rd option is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Neil

Solution
if the card does have 4 pin connector it should work with a 4 pin fan.i remember repairing one of my nvidia card(cant remember the exact model and the card itself have 2pin and 4pin.since the fan i receive is 4 pin i decided just to go with it and it works.
