Games crashing after installing 1080ti?

Hey all, I'm having some problems with my new MSI 1080ti, after playing a game for a few minutes the game starts stuttering, then crashes. I've noticed with the MSI gaming app that for some reason the clock speed is running as high as 1900mhz even though OC mode should only go to 1700? I don't know if that could be the problem even though the temp only stays around 72 degrees. I tried switching it to silent mode, but it still runs high. Any thoughts on what could be causing this? My last card was the R9 390 and I used the AMD clean uninstall tool before installing the 1080ti.

Did you completely remove the AMD drivers using AMD's removal tool?

If not I would completely remove Nvidia's drivers, then remove all of AMD's drivers using their removal tool here and then reinstall the Nvidia Drivers.

Yes I did use that before installing the new one.
