Upgrading: CPU or Graphics Card?

So here is what's wrong. I have a great computer, been gaming for over four years and have upgraded almost everything I can possibly see. Now comes the time where I have a choice, do I upgrade my CPU or do I upgrade my graphics card. I have money to do only one at this time so I need to make a good decision that will last for a while.

My computer specs:
ASRock 970A-G/3.1 AM3+/AM3 AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard,so no Intel or ryzn CPUs are in play for this question

32gb of ddr3 ram

Corsair H100i v2 water cooling unit

1tb hardrive

GTX 960 EVGA FTW Edition 4gb ddr5 memory

And lastly a AMD FX 4300 CPU


So my PC is great in some areas and poor in others. I want to see which makes more sense to do, either upgrade my CPU to an AMD FX 8350
Or the AMD FX 9590. But if depending on what you guys think, should I instead of upgrading my CPU, upgrade my card to a GTX 1050 EVGA SSC edition 4gb DDR5 memory.

If you think I should upgrade my CPU instead of my graphics card, then please specify which CPU I have listed would be a better option in your opinion and why not to upgrade my card.

If you think I should get a graphics card instead of a new CPU please specify why and if you think my choice of a card is wise decision.

Thank you to all who may provide me some help in this matter. And don't be afraid of getting technical bec I know quite a lot about computer information.

Need to know which board you actually have. Some won't run a 8350 well over 90% of am3+ boards won't work with the 9*** processors. There's no real point to a gpu Upgrade as any am3 processor will bottlneck anything that is a major upgrade from a 960. Though honestly my suggestion would be save up and get a new could/board/ram personally

I agree with supahos. Id probably do a new cpu/ram/board. Either an i5 7500 with a b250 board, or an amd cpu if youre liking them more. Your cpu is on the lower end and upgrading on that socket wouldnt be much of an upgrade for the price. You could sell your stuff on ebay and use the money to help jump into a new platform

If not.... i wouldnt upgrade your gpu or your cpu. I would just add in a solid state . That would speed things up a ton. Even just an 850 evo 250gb would be good. move windows and the game or two you play the most over

what games do you play?

Well I have already taken precautions before I made this thread and so yesterday during the amazon prime day, I bought the discounted 8350 for only $100. Now if it is worth getting the 8350 to replace my 4300 then I won't return the 8350. But if it is a bigger advantage to replace my GPU then I will return the CPU.

I understand your point. I agree that it is wasting money to not buy a ryzn CPU and ddr4 ram and an AM4 socket, but I just don't have money in the first place to save up for around 500 or 600 dollars to get all those new components. And by the time I get that money, ryzn may even be obsolete and beaten by Intel for some new CPU they release. I am just looking for an upgrade that will allow me to enjoy my games and do so at low cost. And the 8350 has been around for years, yet companies still are using it in their PCs that are on sale. The CPU is not trash, especially with ryzn now out on the market.
