Need advice with delidding

Hello,

I've bought a delid die mate 2 and thermal grizzly conductonaut to delid my 4790k as it is a hot running one.

I have also ordered Arctic Silver Ceramique 2 to cover the voltage regulators (the thingies next to the cpu) and Uhu high temp silicone to seal it back up.

I've watched a couple of vids and I feel pretty confident and have made sacrifices to the gods to make sure I don't break it.

but just out of curiosity, I was wondering if you have any extra advice:
- How delicate must I be when cleaning the actual cpu.
- is the ceramique a good idea for covering the thingies?

any other advice?

I would be very grateful!!!

Hey, thanks for the reply, I actually forgot to mention, I bought a dead 4670, just to get my hand warmed up!!
Although, now that I think of it, I wont know if I killed it or not...

Hey, thanks for the reply!!
I'm going to use a NH-D15 (which I just bought), I am unsure as of yet, depends on the delid, but if all goes well, probably to 4.5 - 4.6
I owned a fractal design s36 which worked fine for 1 year, then it really floored and so I have bought the noctua!
Also, my chip is generally too hot imho, that's why I want to delid.

Hey, thank you for the reply.... Well I am a noobie, but I know my chip's thermals are pretty bad, and my cooler has been a bit awful so I have decided to get both a new noctua d15 cooler and do a delid :)

---------------------------------------------------------

I'm still not sure about using the ceramique to cover the thingies, is that a good idea or should I just use nail varnish?

If it is solder it's a bad idea all round

Update:
Finished delidding, and changed cooler, idle temps dropped to 25 from 55, under full load overclocked to 4.5, I get 70
Superbly happy!! :D

And 13thmonkey, thanks for letting me know about soldered stuff, I had no idea cpus were even soldered so a bit of research helped make sure mine wasn't :)

oh, forgot to mention, you know the glue they use, silicone or whatever it is, a little of it was actually on the cpu, that's my guess for the high temps, beside my crappy cooler that is.
