Hello!
i got my first PS2 after almost 6 years and i got it hooked up and i have a problem that i cant tell if its my TV or the system.
When using composite the image is good (for composite) but when i try to use component if there's not movement the image turns black and white and with movement there's massive artifacts and colors errors. i know these component cable work because i used component with this same cord on my PS3 for years before i switched to HDMI a couple months back.

Ive never seen anything like this before. Any Ideas?

Solution
i got it to work, all i have to do is go into the PS2 settings and switch the component video mode to RGB then back to Y Pb/Dc Pr/Cr really quick then i get a perfect component signal. i have to do that on EVERY console restart. i dont get why that works as my TV does not support RGB, but oh well.

just found something out. pretty sure its my TV. when i powered it off and back it, at the top where it shows the input it said "Component" for half a second then switched to "AV" which is composite. when i used component with my PS3 it ALWAYS said "Component" and never "AV"

This might work out, but use av and go into the system configuration, go to the video settings and set the output to YPBPR (Y Cb/Pb/ Cr/Pr)
The reason why it displayed that way when you switched to component was because when you use RGB mode for av, you need to set the video settings to that before using component, you can probably do it in component too, you just have to switch it to that before using component, that's all, so pretty much just set it to that, switch back to component and everything should be working!

i acideltally set it to RGB and my TV went black, so i changed it back to Y Cb/Pb/ Cr/Pr while blind. my component cable is one of those combo deals with PS2/3 Wii and Xbox 360 connectors on it. it also has a "TV/HDTV" switch on it but flipping it does nothing.
my TV is also one of those deals where it uses the green on component for composite, so you cant use both at the same time.

switching the cables made no difference even with a game running. its almost like my cheap as TV doesnt support standard def through component. it does have a VGA input, i dont suppose that could be used could it?
if i plug in the green cable i get the bad image, but plugging in the red and/or blue make no difference at all whatsoever. looks what what my TV is doing is it thinks its getting a composite signal so it only uses the composite input which is shared with the green on component. Pff, Technology

UPDATE: I Plugged the component cables into my PS3 with it in COMPOSITE MODE, with the COMPONENT cables in my TV and i got the EXACT same black and white image with nasty artifacts. HOWEVER when i went and set it to COMPONENT at 480p, the image is perfect. so my PS2 is sending out a composite signal and not switching to component. Does the PS2 have a reset option like PS3 does when you hold the power button down for a certain amount of time?
UPDATE2: If i set the PS3 to "AV MULTI" then "Y Pb/Dc Pr/Cr" i still get a perfect picture, so the PS2 has to be the problem here.
Could it be my combo AV multi cable?
