Wireless Printing Problems

My brother has a Samsung wireless printer that we can't get to print wirelessly from his or his wife's macbook(s).

I did the initial set-up for them. Printing over a wired usb connection works fine, as does wireless printing from cell phones (their iphones and my LG G4). I tried using the software disk that came with the printer, and I tried using the newest software Samsung provides online. The macbooks seem to just not connect wirelessly to the printer, but when we plug them in - viola - the print goes through no problem.

Thoughts? A router/firewall setting problem perhaps? Any help is hugely appreciated.

* Please have patience with me when posting troubleshooting advice/inquires, our schedules are not always in sync. I will attempt to relay information/tweak and test and quickly as possible.

Their hardware:
Printer: Samsung Multifunction Xpress C1860FW
Macbook Pro (2010) on Sierra x 2
Modem: Cisco DPC3216
Router: Netgear R6300 v2

Let me know if there's anything else I can provide to be helpful. Thanks!

did you set a static ip on the printer?

on the macs, did you downloaded the .dmg file? did you added the printer via the ip and not via a installer?

the printer is acting as a acces point that you need to connect to or as any wireless device connected to the netgear?

Thank you for your response!

I did not set a static IP to the printer, I figured the one it sets for itself would suffice. Do you suggest I do that?

I did download the .dmgs for the macs. I didn't even know I could add a printer via IP, I'll give that a try!

I don't quite understand your third statement (question?), but the wireless devices they have connected to the netgear router are two iphones, two macs, a PS4, and an iPad. I will check with them to see if they have more if you think that's pertinent.

it is necessary to set a static ip on the printer, always is necessary, if you leave it auto, it could decide to change it later

the third part, yes, the printer can act as a wifi connection, with his own ssid, own password, when you need to print you connect to that network, some people like that, i find it problematic so i always disable that feature

Ah, thank you, I wasn't aware of either of those things. Hopefully I'll be able to try out your advice today or tomorrow, I will post results as soon as I have them.

Sorry I'm so late in posting back to this thread. But as it turns out, a couple months ago I spoke to my brother, and somehow all the wireless functions of the printer work perfectly now. I made no changes, and they said they made no changes.

Not sure how, but the problem seems to be resolved. Go figure.
