Hi, I'm new here so sorry if i'm posting in the wrong forum.

I'm wanting to put together a decent gaming machine. I've done a bit of researching and I think these components will be good enough for me, but I would like to know if these would all be suitable and compatible. I'm also not sure what case to put it in, I don't want a flashy case, just as plain as possible really, but with plenty of ventilation and not too big (if possible)

AMD Ryzen 5 1600X
gtx 980
MSI AMD Ryzen AM4 B350 GAMING PLUS ATX Motherboard
1TB WD Blue HDD
EVGA 500W PSU
8 GB PC19200 DDR4 2400MHz 288

Thanks in advance

it's suitable, make sure ur PSU had a 8-pin connector for the GPU
for case, NZXT S340 seems like a good one, pretty simple and classy

GTX 980 will had some performance issue with DX12 though because of its compabilities, so i rather get the 1070 (on par with 980 but had extra VRAM) / 1080 (20-30% faster) if i were u

If I put it very simply, the 980 is great card but it's little bit old so go for a gtx 10xx graphic card (gtx 1070) or a RX5XX from AMD , You need at least 16GB ram these days. Obviously you need a good SSD. You need to be careful when choosing a PSU.
I suggest you to research more if you are new to this coz there are lot to this topic.

thanks for the answers guys. The GTX 980 is dx12 compatible so it seems the best value for money, according to toms hardware on the heirarchy table it is still a very capable card and i'm on a budget so I cant afford gtx 1080, 1070 maybe at a push.

you say I need a good SSD but i'm not too fussed about that, a decent sshd will be adequate for me as I don't really need faster load times.

it is compatible but the performance are not as good as 1070 (especially with the lower VRAM too), also it draws more power than the 1070
