Why is there a pci connector on the side of my old motherboard ?

Solution
It could be for a daughter/riser card (card that stands vertically), which was needed for some chassis that had non standard designs such as horizontal expansion cards. What's the make & model of your motherboard? Pretty sure the manual would say exactly.
