Have to restart modem several times a day

So whenever my internet is not working I observe that the internet light on my modem keeps on blinking. But both the pc connection and wifi light doesn't blink, that means no one is using the net. I know that when it happens maybe isp is checking if my ip address is in use (But it happens several times in a day, so that couldn't be right, right?) or something related to bot-nets is happening. But the problem is that I am unable to surf the net and have to restart the modem to use it again. It happens many times a day and that is somewhat fishy. What could be the reason for this and if there is any possible solution.

Solution
Common problem which is telling you it's time to replace the modem - - preferably with a high-quality one.

I replaced my Netgear router/modem with another Netgear and blow me down if the same problem came back after a few months (frequently having to restart it to restore connection).

This happened with three Netgears over 18 months, so I spent quite a bit more and bought an expensive Billion router - - best thing I ever did since getting married! It's been working solid for over 3 years, giving me no trouble at all.

No more cheap network gear for me.

Is this a cable modem or a DSL modem?

If it's a cable modem, call up your ISP and request that they reset your modem from their end. This the modem to detect and assign the frequencies it will use to communicate with the ISP. The symptoms you're describing could be because the frequencies which were originally assigned to the modem now have noise on them.

If it's a DSL modem, check for any line quality issues. When you use the phone line to make a call, do you hear static or dropouts? if so, the phone company needs to repair your phone line. Most homes have two phone lines running to it, so this could be as simple as the phone company switching your phone and DSL service to the second line.

The other possibility is that the modem is dying, and you'll need to replace it.
