Processor to motherboard compatibility

I currently have an i7-4470 and I'm going to upgrade my gtx 645 to a gtx 1070 turbo. In addition to that, i want to upgrade my processor to an i7-7700k. I multitask a lot and need faster speeds. Would i need to switch out the motherboard for these specific processors or can i keep the same one ?

In addition to MB you would also need DDR4 RAM.

Your 4th gen 4770 will be using DDR3. The 7700k motherboards use the newer DDR4. They are not interchangeable.

That's still a very good processor but results would vary with games of course, like always. 1070 shouldn't be bottlenecked by it.

You'd be "fine" for now but there's no upgrading of that processor on that platform, sooner or later you'll have to do something about it.
New platform brings new possibilities and features and will be viable and upgradable for longer time.

What is your aim, 1080p 60Hz, 1080p 144Hz, 1440p 60Hz?
At 60Hz there will be no noticeable difference between those CPU's but if aiming for high fps >100 then there might be a small but noticeable gain in cpu heavy games. I would not say it is worth the cost.

To be honest its hard to justify upgrading. At 60Hz/60fps there is no point, at 144Hz/>100fps the gain would be fairly small.
