Installed new case, nothing changed BIOS not recognizing HDD.

I mean, on principle alone I was scared to migrate to a better case for fear of my 8 year old Caviar Black 1TB and doing anything mobile with it.

It was always left alone in the old case and to my admiration it has powered through around 8 years of constant bombardment without dying.

That said, I opted for a silent case, the plan was to simply migrate over everything but the ancient DVD burner to the new case.

So aside from removing the graphics card I installed the mobo and PSU, etc, as one would do step by step.

Now unfortunately in order to secure and install the Caviar HDD I had to kind of flip it upside down, mount a bracket on it, and I tried babying it however I might have just put it down on the table a little too rough, the tiniest of shock reverberation.

However after trying to boot into Windows it's not recognizing the one and only HDD with all files and OS on it.

Now it's not a big deal, of course I listened to you guys and backed up, but I'm wondering what do you think the cause of this is?

Does one have to clear CMOS?

Is it due to the fact that I did not install the DVD burner and the BIOS is throwing a fit, despite an optical drive being optional?

Or perhaps the HDD decided to tap out when being flipped around? Does that happen?

Any advice or help appreciated, thanks!

Although it shouldn't have changed, try changing the bios from UEFI to Legacy or vice-versa. If the motherboard is as old as the drive, you might have a cmos battery failing, in which it would reset the bios to default and require reconfiguring after removing the PSU.

Does the disk make any noise or vibration when the system is turned on?
