Need help to upgrade my old rig that is still (amazingly kicking) , can spend 1000-1200 us dollars, I am in California..can buy online or at Fry's if needed. I play alot of fps games...and games such as Witcher...want to play what is out now and coming down the line. Right now I have 2 24 in monitors...will be upgrading those next. I havent kept up up for a year or so on whats hot so thats why I am asking your expertise. I will keep whatever is re-usable..here is what I have...( I am thinking maybe only the case and optical) ?

Case: CM HAF 922 still worthy?
Mobo: asus p7p55d
Cpu: i5 750 w/ cm hyper 212 cooler
Ram :16gb gskill
Gpu; Radeon XFX 5850
Psu :CM 700W Silent Pro - too small/old?
HDD 1 tb ( I will keep this and add a SSD for games and programs
Optical drive : 1 x Sony Optiarc DVD Burner

Can spend a but more if needed for a great gpu

I do not mind replacing everything if needed. Thanks for any help and advice!

Thank you for your response. I used to really keep up with this stuff but I've fallen behind. Is the AMD CPU a better choice in that price range than an Intel? Ive read a few reviews, seems to be the thing now the AMD's. One other thing..any particular reason for the micro atx mobo? Again just askin as I havent kept up. I want game to play at high fps..and not worry about an upgrade for a few years...as you can see I usually wait too long..LOL

mATX vs ATX = no difference.
in the price range it is, easily.
i5s only have 4 threads, while the 1600 has twelve, and non HT quad cores are on their way out for gaming as engines begin to utilize more threads. The 1600 atm performs a little bit worse, but it will greatly improve over the next 6-12 months, and will last far longer.

Awesome, I will be doing this in the next week or so...this big ol case is still good...but I may be looking at cases too, perhaps something that isn't as big as my couch. lol I can add a little to my budget..the money actually isn't a problem..but my other hobby of mountain biking is...haha

Really appreciate the input and thanks again!

No worries at all, i'm in a similar situation with audio equipment! ;)
Thing about PCs though is that you only need to upgrade every few years, and it'd only be GPU or maybe a better monitor to go with said GPU.
Your system is top end though, no need to upgrade for another 2-3 years.

The Samsung 960 Evo 250GB.
Only use it for OS and software storage, maybe 1-2 games you want faster loading times in.
Always leave at least 40GB spare though to account for OS growth and to make sure performance doesn't drop, since after it hits 10% remaining speed can be affected.
If you can't afford it now save and get it later.

So I have my parts ordered except the GPU. I am wondering how much I would notice if I bought a less expensive card. I can afford it..I just have a hard time justifying spending 750 on a GPU. Expensive cards these days...haha

I still have all the parts sans the GPU......have just been waiting for prices and availability , plus a recent new car purch. I am curious..if I was making the purchase today would you recommend the new intel chips...or still go Ryzen due to the cost of my build? I ask because I have a fam member that would buy what I have already purchased if I went with Intel. Just dont want to regret my decision lol...so what would you do/recommend? Thanks...for your time and if too busy to respond I understand...and thanks again!
