GTX 1070 locked to 60 FPS

Hey guys, so my gtx 1070 is locked at 60 fps. It's been like it since day one and I bought it months ago while still new. I can turn V-Sync off in nvidia control panel and it does nothing except disable V-Sync. I don't understand why there is a 60 FPS cap on my pc but any clue what's causing this?
Cause I have tried everything on my end I can think of.

Computer:
GTX 1070
MSI Z270 Gaming M3
I5 7600k
2x4GB DDR4 @ 3000MHz
XFX TS 850

Do you experience this I all games? What monitor are you using? Make sure VSYNC is turned off in-game, as well as in the drivers for troubleshooting. Maybe there's an FPS cap set in game?

really cant think of any solution. Are you using HDMI cable, if so that caps the fps to 60 hz.... change to dvi-d or displayport cable... And also do check your monitor refresh rate...

Is this in lots of games? Some games have a frame capping option or if you are using MSI Afterburner or similar they have frame capping options.

Yeah, that's it. I can't switch because I have an ultrawide monitor that is HMDI only, thanks for letting me know though. Appreciate it.

I have never known HDMI to cause an fps cap? I know it can cap monitor Hz but that's completely different. I'm using HDMI @ 1080p and I don't get any fps capping.
