OLD THREAD HERE: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3448171/troubleshooting.html#19937083

I should point out that this issue has stayed CONSISTENT from build to build; the only 3 parts that havent been changed are PSU, HDD, and SSD.

I've been plagued with a large stuttering sound and frame freeze for months now. EDIT: I remembered the exact time this issue started, it was in February.

I remember clearly having this issue during that time and I remember frantically replacing GPU cables and everything to figure out the issue, in fact, I even bought 2 different displayport cables during that time.

Ive been dealing with this issue since Feburary.

My specs:

Solution
windows decompresses some files as it reads them, and moves the entire files out of where you 'clustered' them in defrag. This is one reason why having a solo windows only partition is recommended by nutters like me.

I hope you have it solved. When hdd's fill up with crud for no reason, its a tell tale sign of faulty RAM, but you tested the RAM already.

How much RAM have you got, cant find any info? Do you dedicate pagefile or have windows manage it? I always suggest (2 x system ram) + vram.
(i know this sounds aweful, but windows likes to 'shadow' your vram for faster alt+tabbing between games/programs and desktop so if you got 8GB vram, and 4GB system, its going to page). - if this sounds like you, grab a spare usb and try readyboosting, does the freezing lessen?

Do you open up task manager and resource monitor and see what your computer is doing when it freezes? maybe you can catch whats going on in there? high cpu use or hdd access, what program maybe doing it, etc. Because you use liquid cooling, you cant tell by sound if your cpu is going nuts. Whilst we are looking at the cpu ... its not overheating? HWmonitor that bad boy !

850w psu should be plenty to run a 1080, but to be sure it isnt lack of power, have you got an older less powerful graphics card you can use to test?

Sorry about that, updated the thread with more information. The issue started in Feb. but I have 16 Gigs of ram.

Right now, i'm dirt tired, so I'll do most of the things you've said when I get off work tomorrow.

Thank you for providing your valuable input <3

Btw, temps are fine for CPU/GPU. I check them consistently just in case, and I P95 torture tested my cpu and only hit 75C.

Updated BIOS.

I found something hella sketchy, though. HDD was at 16% fragmentation after 3-4 weeks. This is from a completely new wipe.

===============================

In terms of other steps, I also turned on legacy audio mode for discord.

After finding said fragmentation, defragg'd it.

As of two hours ago, i've had no issues. 2 hours of straight gaming/stream watching.

I'll keep testing this over the course of time. I'd say if it doesn't happen again within a weeks time, i'm fine.

HOWEVER, please, add your thoughts to the thread so we can keep working on it together if needed
