overclocking i3 540 3.07hz

Hi I'm a noob who wants to overclock my i3-540. what frequency would it best be overclocked? I still have an intel stock cooler so I guess overclocking to 4+hz would be bad any tips or suggestion?

my specs are

i3 540 3.07hz
intel dhp55pj
gtx1050ti
4gb ram
seasonic m12-ii 520 evo

That is a locked cpu. You can not overclock it with the multiplier. You would have to use the FSB. The stability of such an overclock would be extremely suspect. Not only would you have to raise the FSB, you would have to lower the memory to compensate. Then there is wondering if the FSB could even take the voltage you would have to put on it. If you are lucky you can get it stable at 3.2ghz, and that would be partially offset by lowering the memory speed.

Add all that up with the stock heatsink and you can forget about it. Even with a nice aftermarket cooler there is no way you could take that cpu to 4ghz.

All in all it is not worth the effort.

Damn maybe I should just buy a new cpu and mobo. Any suggestions? Being a student is tough, i have like 200$ budget for a new mobo and procie would the intel g4560 + a new mobo be able to run low-med settings on players unknown battleground? Or should I just go for an i7 870 + 2x 4gb 1600mhz ram? What would be best?
