Hello,

my SSD randomly stops working after I shut it down especially at night time when I am off to bed. I did try with different sata cable, different power cable and it won't turn on the next time I boot my pc. it doesn't show up in the BIOS.

here is the weird part, after couple restarts it randomly reappears out of no where! is my SSD dying or there is something else that I am not aware of which I am doing wrong?

SSD health is at 95% too so that is fine.

thanks guys any help would be appreciated.

sorry, what does SCSI mean? I am not familiar with this lol

it's still connected to the same SATA port as when I got it. plus my HDD works fine every time.

I have been using my SSD for about a year and a half. definitely not above 3 years.

my SSD is connected to one of the 6 ports, does SCSI have anything to do with, maybe?

1. Forget about the "SCSI" designation re the SSD. The Microsoft OS (Device Manager) frequently refers to a SATA HDD or SSD as a "SCSI device". It's not unusual at all.

2. I would doubt the PSU is the root of the problem. If you had a PSU tester that would probably tell you, but I have my doubts it's the PSU. I assume you don't have another PSU that you could substitute for the present one.

3. And you've indicated (although you haven't PRECISELY stated) that you've tested the SSD with a diagnostic program and it checks out OK. Right?

4. I assume your 1 TB secondary HDD does NOT contain an OS. But perhaps it does. If so, could you try booting to the OS on that drive?

5. Or if you did have another HDD or SSD handy could you install the OS onto that drive and trying booting to it? (Or clone the contents of the present SSD to the drive and see if it boots to the OS?).

6. Have you tried running the sfc /scannow command to check on the integrity of the OS files? If not, do so. If you're not familiar with that command, do a Google search on using it.

hey, thanks for replying.

as of now my ssd was able to boot after so many tries, I do have OS installed in my HDD which I was using earlier. the SSD would completely disappear from the BIOS and computer.

the OS seems to be fine. it's just that my pc won't pick up any signal from the SSD what so ever. it really is strange.

Hi Tesetilaro,
After reading your insight I wish to know what you think about what is going on with my laptop and my new SSD,
In short its Lenovo Y700-15ISK, UHD + Touch, and Toshiba SSD THNSF5256GPUK 256 GB PCIe M.2.

The Problem is that I found out that my system boot up in 22 seconds after I shut it down, its since the SSD dont start to work after Shut down, but after restart the SSD do start, and if I boot from the SSD or from the HDD after restart it will take 150 seconds to boot windows back up.

Maybe you can add some insights to how this things works or maybe can't work for some reason?

@moek

FWIW, I'm having the exact same problem now. Did you ever resolve this? I'd be interested in hearing your experiences. Different motherboard and SSD, (asrock and samsung evo860), but same symptom of not showing up in BIOS every few reboots. At least during my testing today, it actually sortof follows a pattern. SSD doesn't show after a reboot. Next reboot, whole system won't boot (even though the SSD that goes missing isn't a boot drive). Then after THIRD reboot, everything comes up fine.

I'm ordering a new SSD (wanted a bigger one anyway), and will post back if that makes a difference.
