Hi,

I have just built my first computer with the following specs:

ASUS Prime X370 mainboard
Ryzen 7 1700 CPU
16GB 2400 RAM
Radeon Pro WX4100 GPU
Samsung 960Pro
Hitachi Ultrastar 7K3000 HDD
750w PSU
Windows 10Pro

Question:
I have just copied over my files (210GB) from the Samsung 960Pro to the other internal HDD (Hitachi Ultrastar 7K3000) and the copying speed ranged between 200KB/s and 50MB/s with the occasional spike to 115MB/s

I watched this for some time and would say that most of the time speeds were in the 15 to 25MB/s range.

One of the reasons i built a new pc was because i was frustrated when transferring/ copying files. But this is not that much quicker.
Surely the Samsung 960Pro to an internal HDD should be quicker than this?

Any thoughts?

Speed depends on the slowest device in the chain.
Be it network, hard drives, or traffic on the road.

If the guy in front of you is only going 30mph, it does not matter that your Ferrari can go 150mph.
In your case, the HDD is the slow one.

HDDs have there own read and write speeds, no matter what you do nothing will make them go faster. pumping 100MB into something thats only accepting 20MB results in a 20MB write. likewise, pumping 20MB into an SSD which accepts 100MB will also result in a 20MB write. You only go as fast as the slowest drive.
