My 'Disk' usage typically shows as 0% in Windows 10 Task Manager, but tends to jump to around 20% for a few seconds every minute or so. Sometimes when it does this, my laptop freezes briefly. This is especially annoying while playing a game, as the game typically freezes for 2 seconds every few minutes at random points (this happens with a number of unrelated games and other apps), after which the HDD wheezes for about half a minute.
One curious case is a game where I'd manually save a 1MB file to the hard disk. Whenever the HDD is still wheezing, this operation would not cause any lag in the application (regardless of whether the task manager shows 0% disk usage), but when the HDD is silent the application would always freeze for 2 seconds.
I tried changing some power settings ('Turn off hard disk after' is set to 'never', 'hibernate' is set to 'never', etc) but nothing had any effect.
I've had this problem ever since I bought this laptop 2 months ago.
Specs:
- Acer Aspire F5-573G
- 1000GB HDD (Toshiba MQ01ABD100)
- 256GB SSD (Micron_1100_MTFDDAV256TBN)
- Intel Core i5-7200U CPU
- 8GB DDR4 RAM
Thanks in advance for any help.
