x370 Gaming Pro Carbon Won't Post

Having an issue with our new build. We have an MSI X370 Gaming Pro Carbon mobo, Ryzen 7 1800X CPU, Corsair - Dominator Platinum 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3000 Memory, and a EVGA GTX 1080 graphics card. The system is up and running great, other than the RAM. It won't get to higher than 2166, and will not post at all with more than one of the RAM sticks in. I've tried both of the sticks in the suggested slot for one stick of RAM (A2) and both will boot the machine fine individually. As soon as I add the second stick into B2 (the suggested placement for using 2 stick of RAM per the manual), it will no longer post. It will start to boot but after a few seconds it will turn off and power cycle. Wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if so, how to fix it.

Thanks!

Have you tried updating the bios to the latest version, just as a word of warning, do not update in Windows, use the tool built into the bios (M-Flash)

The trouble with 16gb sticks, is they are double sided sticks, 1 ram stick is like running 2, so 2 is like running 4, you would of been better off buying 4 x 8gb kit, its a lot of strain on the memory controller in the CPU, you may have to up the SoC voltage a bit to 1.100v and make sure that ram is at 1.35v, you may even have to give the CPU a little more volatage.

First thing we did was update the BIOS to the latest release, which was the one released on June 27th. Everything worked great with it until we tried putting in the second RAM.

We'll have to try changing the voltage, we haven't done that yet, thanks for that tip! We've tried underclocking it just to see if we can get it to boot, but that didn't work either. We got 2x16GB because the machine will be mainly used the video editing, color grading, and 3D animation, ad we intend on getting another 2x16GB to end up with 64GB to run everything the best it possibly can.

Turns out the CPU wasn't seated correctly and slots 3 & 4 for the RAM were not functional. 1 & 2 would boot fine but in 3 & 4 would crash immediately, even with only one stick. Ended up removing then replacing the CPU and all is functional now without touching anything else in BIOS!

(Didn't mean to downvote you and don't know how to take that back.)

Spoke with tech support last night and they said that doesn't REALLY matter which slots they're in. But they had us test each slot with one stick to see if it worked. We knew A2 worked already cause that's what we'd been using. It booted with A1, but did the same thing it'd been doing (crashing) when the RAM was in B1 or B2. They said those slots weren't functioning properly, so we just removed the CPU and put it back in and then those slots were functioning as expected, but we did keep the RAM in A2 and B2, even though they said any slots would work the same. So sounds like my issue was just that the CPU wasn't seated correctly. Just wanted to post this in case anyone else had this issue with the RAM and couldn't figure out a reason why. Everything is working now, and we got the RAM speeds up to 2933 (they're 3000), which is WAY better than the 2166 we couldn't get it above before.

The same ones we were trying to use originally, A2 and B2. They are now all functional.

Ahh good, you'll be running in dual channel with those 2 slots, my A1 and B1 slots dont work either unless ive already populated A2 and B2 first, same motherboard.

Its a great board, I love it too, control the LED's on the board with the MSI gaming app, turn off ones you dont want like the graphics card LED, the tiny one hiden under the card itself and the ram slot LEDs, the rest I have doing the rainbow effect, looks great.

So... Having another issue now. PC has been working great for a few weeks with no issues. 2 weeks ago we got an Oculus Rift and have been playing games on it with no issues. Then early last week it crashed with a blue screen once while in After Effects but it was stable after. Middle of last week we purchased a second m.2 and that was working fine for a couple days but did have 1 or 2 crashes in that time, but seemed stable after. Then on Friday, while playing an Oculus game, the game froze and since then the computer has been crashing A LOT. Sometimes we can barely keep it on for more than a minute. It'll crash while just on the desktop, while just on Chrome or looking in the explorer, sometimes we manage to get After Effects or Premiere open and it crashes. The longest it's been on with things running has been maybe 20 minutes before a crash. Different error messages every time.

We reseated the GPU and RAM. Tried using any and all software to check the hardware and everything shows it as no issues and normal. Did a memory diagnostic test that came back with no errors. Called MSI to see if they had any suggestions and they said to do a fresh Windows install because it sounded like that. We did that last night, but it still has crashed twice since then, even with hardly anything installed. We updated to the latest version of Windows and updated the drivers for the hardware. This morning (we think) it crashed while installing the creative cloud app. It restarted at least, but there was no .dmp file.

So, getting really frustrated not knowing what exactly is wrong or what the next troubleshooting step should be. We have a bunch of jobs going on and need this computer to do them. Not sure what else to try other than RMAing things (if we even can at this point, it's been 6-7 weeks since we bought most of the components) but that could take longer than we have on deadlines.
