I have always wondered this. My gpu is an msi rx 480 4gb with torx 2.0 fans. Also twin frozr vi. Ibleave ny fans running at 50% all the time.

Solution
The two-ball bearing fans on the Twin Frozr VI are the ones rated 6 years. The FDB Torx 2.0 fans are supposed to be rated 17 years!

That said, by default the fans seldom even turn on so are intended to see few hours of actual use. They are supposed to stay completely off until 60C and as the RX480 only uses 16w at idle according to Tom's review, shouldn't turn on except under heavy load like gaming.

This doesn't seem comforting as a whole bunch of used cards are about to hit the market which have been under 100% mining loads their whole lives.

Possibly. Any fan has the potential to eventually fail. That is why they sell replacement fans. If you use the cards hard and the fans are going all the time, then yes, eventually they will die. Any fan that runs a lot will eventually wear out. Brushes, rollers, ball bearings, they all will wear away slowly. At which time you just buy fans to replace them.

The dual ball bearings on each fan are expected to last for at least 54,000 hours when running in a 60°C environment.

The fan motors should be brushless induction motors so there's no brushes to wear out.

"Expected to." Sometimes though, there is a small flaw when the bearings are made that gets bad with usage a lot faster than expected. 54000 hours is over 6 years with it running 24 hours a day. I personally have never seen a fan hold up that well, LOL. Still, chances are, your GPU will become outdated before the fan goes bad under normal circumstances.
