Edit: Since this I have noticed that even when I am not shooting my game goes to 30 and it sucks because It stays at 30 for a minute which Idk why but my sensitivity is slower. I know that people say it feels slower but I tested it and I can not make a full 360 turn with my mouse while dragging it across my mouse pad with 30 fps and with 60 I can so idk. Any Help is appreciated and also I am sorry to everyone to replied, I was on vacation and did not have the time to reply fast, sorry..

Hi, I built my first computer a year ago and I have been noticing that my FPS in game has been pretty low. Here are my specs.

MSI GTX 970
FX-6300
M5A27 R2.0
A Cooler, Like a 40$ Evo one
1080p Display 60hz

I play games like CSGO and Black Ops 3 and In CSGO it goes like 100 and down to 30 when I shoot at someone. From what I can tell, CSGO shouldn't have like 100 with my GPU. And Black Ops 3 runs and 90 on maxed out setting with upscaling at 1080p. It's way more intensive and I get above 60 always.

So I am asking for a Good CPU and Motherboard Combo that would be good with my GPU. My Price range is 120-200. Thank You!

Yea, I don't really know, I was wondering why this was happening and gave up so I went on GTA V and same thing happens 100 fps then goes to 30 and it sits there for a minute as well as csgo.

I mean I could but I would need some help because I am not to techy and I barely managed to overclock my cpu to 4.2 Ghz so doing that, it would scare me so Idk
I would suggest 2 things

1. reset cmos and remove the overclocking, why ? because if you don't know what your doing a change in certain specs of overclocking and you can make your CPU very hot for no good reasons, which leads me to my second point;

2. if your playing a game for a time and your @ 100fps, then it drops to...

You are gonna need to save up some more money, the minium CPU would be a i5 7500/R5 1400 to keep up with that GPU properly. Especially in a game like CSGO. The FX CPU of your's is even outclassed by kaby lake pentiums and Skylake and Kaby Lake i3's.

Either https://pcpartpicker.com/list/4QkgCy or https://pcpartpicker.com/list/D4sjCy. But with the Ryzen system, you may have to do some fiddling in the BIOS to get the DDR4 ram to run at 3000mhz. Getting the ram to run at 3000Mhz will do the CPU better than most CPU overclocks for ryzen.

At that budget, you might want to consider the motherboards that use DDR3 RAM so you can re-use your existing RAM. Here is one example:
https://www.amazon.com/LGA1151-Micro-Motherboards-B150M-PLUS-D3/dp/B016A459GO/

To go with the LGA1151 socket, in your price range, is the i3-7100 or the G4560 (or anything in between), since the i5s are close to $200 already and you still need money for the motherboard.

NO!!!!!! DO NOT USE DDR3 WITH SKYLAKE OR KABY LAKE! There is a reason for this. DDR3 uses a higher voltage (1.5/1.65v) vs DDR4 (1.2/1.35v). The memory controller is integrated into the CPU in Skylake and Kaby Lake CPUs! As a result the DDR3's higher voltage is harmful to the memory controller in the skylake and kaby lake CPU's! As a result the DDR3 will wear down the memory controller and kill the memory controller (effectively killing the CPU permanently). Also im pretty sure using DDR3 with skylake and kaby lake void's the CPU's warranty. Also, i doubt a pentium or i3 is gonna keep up with the performance of a GTX 970.

I'm strugling to see why CS:GO has so bad performance, don't think that a new cpu will solve that. From looking online should you get better performance wth that cpu.
You installed all the latest drivers? For gpu as well as motherboard. For the gpu you might even want to try an older version of the Nvidia drivers.
Have the latest bios?
Playing at 1080p?

It's most certainly the CPU. CSGO is VERY single core performance dependent. The FX line of CPU'S from AMD have terrible single core performance. That's the reason why i3 6100 can beat out a FX 8350 despite having a forth of the physical cores and half the threads of the 8350. Source engine thrives on single core over multicore. Even the R5 1400 would be a substantial improvement in single core since zen has a huge IPC increase over piledriver/bulldozer.

I suspect it might be a combination of bad game files that need corruption checking and CPU bottleneck. His FPS in Black Ops 3 damn near perfectly aligns with youtube videos of people with that exact CPU GPU combo in black ops 3.

if your short on cash go to eBay and go grab an FX 8320 (since you have an AMD board) or you will need mobo, cpu and ram upgrade , then I would suggest getting a Ryzen 1500

according to the ASUS manual for your motherboard" https://www.manualslib.com/manual/414970/Asus-M5a97-R2-0.html?page=9#manual it can handle up to 140w TDP 8 Core CPU on FX series.

120$ on newegg.com: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113285
80-100$ on ebay https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=fz-8320&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR12.TRC2.A0.H0.Xfx-8320.TRS0&_nkw=fx-8320&_sacat=0

or invest that same 100-120$ into a new system and get this instead

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 1600 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor ($199.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: ASRock - AB350M Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard ($65.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: Patriot - 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($62.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $328.96

That FX 8320 will be a waste of money that he should save. I use to use a FX 8120 with a 970 and it bottlenecked HARD.

Yes, I have had all my drivers installed but I am wondering if there are any drivers for my cpu, though I doubt it but other than that I have all my drivers.

2. if your playing a game for a time and your @ 100fps, then it drops to 30fps, I now suspect CPU throttling. (CPU getting too hot under gaming situation and trying to cool down) I would check fans are working on cooler, then load HWINFO, run it then run your game, until you get low FPS then exit game, then look at temperatures for your CPU in the MAX column, My bet your over 90'c.
