Need some help, I have i7 5930k with x99 deluxe oc at 4.1ghz and 32gb ram over 8 sticks 2666.

Should I upgrade to i7 7700k with asus maximus ix oc at 5ghz 16gb ram over 2 sticks 3200.

Il use a 1080ti and game only at 4k 60fps.
My build already does this well but I want to future proof myself.

Thanks

Yeah that will be the reverse of future proofing, especially for gaming. More and more games are using 8+ threads Witcher 3, Rise of the Tomb raider, the Division...then you get games that will use every thread you have like BF1, Watch Dogs 2, Ghost Recon Wildlands and the list is only growing. At this point 4C/8T cpu is what I would consider the new entry level like 4C/4T was before (assuming 2C/4T was bare bones gaming which is now 4C/4T). You would be droping cores and threads for a little more IPC. Yeah in the short term that might help in a few games (hurt in others) but 3 years from now I would rather have a 6C/12T+ CPU then a 4C/8T one...oh wait I do i7 3930K @4.2 GHZ for 4K like yourself.

Don't do that. It's more downgrade than upgrade. Going from 32 GB ram to 16 GB is just bad. Althrough i7 7700k is better for gaming because of better single core performance, the performance will be just more around 10 fps, if you will be really able to overclock it to 5 GHz, and for multi-threaded tasks, i7 5930k is much better. For the saved 650 bucks you can rather go to holiday.

Absolutely not. The difference in gaming would be unnoticeable. Heck, I've got some modern demanding games that show little to no difference between an i7 960@4.2, i7 4770K@4.3, i7 6700@4.0, and my 5930K@4.5. Processors just have not advanced much for gaming the past 9 years or so, it would be more of a side-grade than an upgrade.
