I have an i7-4790k, and I just bought a new cooler (the be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3)

This guy:

So I've been messing around with overclocking, and I have a stable 4.8ghz OC at 1.25v.
The highest temps I've had gaming was in Mass Effect: Andromeda, which was around 74C,
most other games hang around 65C, with less demanding games under 60C entirely. I know
my temps are good, i'm not worried about them, but still, is it safe to leave the OC in effect
all day, everyday. Also, I left the intel smart frequency turned on in the BIOS, so at idle the
CPU runs at 800MHZ and only goes up to 4800MHZ when it needs to.

(I messed with a 5.0GHZ, 1.3v OC, but it wasn't stable and I didn't want to push voltage higher)

So, is this OK? Should I only use it when doing computationally intensive tasks or can I leave it on 24/7?

Thanks for the advice!

Yeah, it generally comes down to voltage, and running under 1.3v on a full time OC (with good temps) is all good man. That's a darn clean OC.

Have you run any stress tests like ROG Realbench for several hours to verify max temps and stability?

I would be fine with 4.8ghz@1.25v for daily use, assuming the temps are kept in check. 1.25V is generally regarded as a safe voltage to run haswell chips at. Most people don't recommend going above 1.35v, my friend runs his at 1.41v 5.0ghz and has for the past year it still has yet to show any signs of degradation.

I had not run any stress tests, the temps were recorded with HWMonitor while gaming.

However, since you mentioned it, I decided to get Aida64 and ran the stress test for an hour, had no stability issues,
max temps across the four cores were 83C, 81C, 82C, 80C

Average temps were 68C, 68C, 69C, 64C
