Hi, I have a ASRock b150m pro4v motherboard and i am going to buy 8gb of ram for it and i am not sure if i should get 1 8gb stick or 2 4gb sticks and has that got anything to do with dual and single channel? Also i will be adding another 8gb in the future.

Solution
Dual channel is slightly faster. Not much. 1-2% IIRC.
Go for 8 gigs now, add same brand and model 8 gigs later.
Best would be 2 paired 8 gig sticks now. Because those would be tested to work together.
2x4GB now and 2X4GB later might be problematic. Hunting down same brand and model and all 4 sticks playing nicely with each other plus the extra strain on the memory controller from 4 sticks. I wouldn't do it. Even tho I did on my last system. Guess I got lucky.

single chanel is one ram stick working alone

dual channel is two identicall sticks working each one in a ram slot

having two allows system to access ram easily and this offers a system extra performance, on some cases it could be up to 10% extra over the single channel situation

if you can, go for dual channel, is extra performance for sometimes not much extra money

if you can go for 2x8, unless you plan to upgrade mainboard in the near future

remember that to get the duachannel feature the second stick must be identical, same brand, model, size, timings

even then, some mainboards decide not to work in dualchannel so the second module will work just in single channel, sometimes happens, that is why we mention the 2x4 or 2x8 ram kits, the modules in the kit are designed to work in pairs with the same values so the dualchannel feature works
