Ram slot inconsistency

I have the MSI Z170A Gaming M5 motherboard and I recently bought the G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) Model F4-2400C15D-16GVR.

In the motherboard guide it says to install the modules in DIMM2 then the second in DIMM4.
Though the compatibility list MSI for the ram says its checked for DIMMS 1 AND 2. Will I have to put the memory sticks in DIMM1 AND DIMM2 in order for it to function correctly? If so will I lose any performance due to the sticks being in that configuration and not the configuration that is described in the motherboard manual?

Solution
That is just how many sticks comes in said kit. 1 check mark for one DIMM (dual in-line memory module) other wise known as a ram stick, 2 check marks for 2 sticks, and 3 check marks for 4 sticks. That has nothing to do with where you should put your sticks on your mobo, there is a difference between a DIMM and a DIMM slot.

What? "Though the compatibility list MSI for the ram says its checked for DIMMS 1 AND 2" i have no idea why it would say that, you are likely misinterpreting it.

Use slots 2 and 4 as your manual recommends, you would likely see a performance loss if you used slots 1 and 2, I believe the ram would run in single channel mode if used in slots 1 and 2.

Well my concern is on MSI website, when you go to the compatibility list, there are check marks for only 1,2 and 4 DIMM. The ram I have chosen to buy has only check marks for DIMM 1 and 2. So just want to make sure I am not forced by the ram to only do channels 1 and 2.
