No Network Adapter in Device Manager?

Hello all. I am trying to help a friend with his computer issue today. We are trying to get him access to the internet but he does not have a network adapter installed. Under device manager, the only network to appear is TAP Windows Adapter V9 (I believe this has to do with VPNs anyways) and that comes up as an unidentified network.

His motherboard is an ASRock Q87M vPro/ASM. I had him try using his disk to install drivers and utilities but that did not work. I also referred him to installing the LAN driver on the download page from a laptop onto a usb stick but when doing that it said that there wasn't a network adapter found on the PC.

If anyone could help us out, it would be highly appreciated! Thank you.

Did you check the BIOS to see if the adapter is disabled in there?

You don't say what OS, and whether x86 or x64.

If you downloaded from ASRock page, their latest drivers are usually very old. You could also try https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/60019/Intel-Ethernet-Connection-I217-LM for the latest drivers, though since you are not seeing the device in Device Manager then this wont work either.

Apologies for the missing information. The OS is Windows 8.1 and yes, we did check the BIOS and the Onboard LAN setting is enabled.
