Sudden problem with gaming, CPU problem?

A couple of days ago i booted up my PC and steam ready for a PubG session when i noticed that the game was running really slowly, i thought that this is nothing out of the ordinary for this game. So i then launched Fallout/Witcher lll etc and the problem was apparent through all games.
Its worth noting that none of this was an issue until i got a sudden update from windows yesterday that i did not agree to and could not stop...

I also downloaded some software to check my temps. CPU avg at around 70c but sometimes hit as high as 93c! (when gaming) and even on idle times with 0 CPU usage temps sat at around 55c through all cores.

i have a stock Intel i7 4790k heatsink and fan which is around 2 and a half years old now. Is it just time for me to buy a new heatsink/fan for my CPU?

Is the cpu even the problem as i did not think it would impact gaming as much as it does, thought that was mainly the GPU's responsibility?

I have tried replacing the thermal paste, and i dust my PC regularly and the air flow is as good as it gets in my house, i live in the UK and the temp here is around 18c at the moment.

As for new heatsinks/fans (if necessary) i was thinking of a COOLERMASTER HYPER 212 Evo. However i have a Maximum V11 hero and it does not look like there will be much space for the coolermaster as the fan is mounted horizontally, it looks like maybe my RAM might prevent airflow?

Its also worth noting (may not be related, but my pc sometimes (maybe once every few days) would suddenly power off with no warning, booting up fine afterwards. It seemed to be at random times, not just when gaming/ high usage moments.

Sorry for the bombardment of questions but i am by no means a pc wizkid, i appreciate all help. Thank you.

If it was temp related, you might try unlocking the heatsink, and slightly rotating/shifting it just to slightly shift the thermal interface material, and retest for any differnce...

If something majorly detrimental to performance occurred exactly coincident with the Windows update, that's the first place to start/attempt to rule out...

In control panel/system/device manager, perhaps you couldmost motherboard and all related devices and GPU with reckless abandon, and allow them to be redetected/reinstalled, then reinstall chipset and GPU driver packages....

If your case has room and you are determined for a new cooling solution, compare the simple/quiet Noctua NH-D15 to many liquid/AIO coolers...

"perhaps you couldmost motherboard and all related devices" what did you mean to say? (sorry want to make sure i do this correctly)

and how do i know which ones specifically to delete? also chipset and GPU driver packages, not sure how to go about them either.

Sorry i am relativly new to these kind of methods but would really rather get help and do it myself.

Thank you for the help!
