Hello. I have a GTX950 videocard with 2GB onboard ram, paired with an intel i3 processor at 3.33GZ and 14 GB ram with SSD. My son claims it lags badly when playing online multiplayer games such as minecraft. I suspect it is due to network lag, as I live in Alaska (far away from all servers), but just wondering in theory how much computing power I need to get decent frame rates for games like minecraft at 720p resolution. This would be great to know as prices continually drop for newer cards. Thank you.

You can play minecraft off line and see how it goes.
gflops alone won't tell you what you need to know,and the gpu being too slow won't cause lagging unless it's soooo slow that it drops below ~20FPS which your card doesn't,it's a decent card for this kind of games.
Also check your ping to the game servers.
