Which hard drive configuration would be better?

Should I get 4 x 250gb hard drives in raid 0 or 2 x 500gb hard drives in raid 0. The 250gb option is cheaper but I only have 4 sata ports on my motherboard. Should I spend a little extra and buy 2 x 500gb? Or even 2x 250gb and 1 x 500gb? This is to be used in a whitebox virtualisation server..

1. The prices of 250GB drives are not THAT much cheaper than 1TB drives.
2. RAID 0? What sort of backup are you planning on? RAID 0 should never be run without a good backup plan.
Unless this is a throwaway box.
3. Why RAID 0 in the first place? I know that it is 'faster' with HDD's, but does your use case justify the extra hassle?
