I've downloaded elementaryOS on one of my family's old (slow) computers, and its working fine. I would like to install OpenOffice, but I can't run the .deb files. On the integrated app store, I cant find how to install GetDeb with terminal, because once again, the .deb won't run. Getting programs on this computer is very important, please help!

Solution
Try to search in store gdebi, it's .deb packages installer. If it isn't in store, then run in terminal: 'sudo apt install gdebi' without quotes.

What skittle said. Always use apt-get first, or if Elementary has a software manager GUI, use that too. Also don't use open office as it is pretty much a dead project that is reaching its end of life. LibreOffice is being very actively developed and supports tons of features that open office doesn't
