Hi there , first forum message thingy so excuse my errors with spelling and the like.
I am building a budget gaming rig, like most of the people on here lol , and want to know if my two builds will prevent me upgrading in the future to say an i5 or a cheap AMD Ryzen.
Build one
£255 or £230 if you only go with 4gb ram.
CPU : AMD Athlon X4 860K 3.7 ghz Quad Core
GPU : RX 460 2GB
RAM : Patriot DDR3 1600 mhz (4GB x 2) or (4GB x 1)
MOTHERBOARD : GA-F2A68HM-HD2
POWER SUPPLY : Deep Cool 400w ATX
STORAGE : Western digital blue 320 gb
Build two
£319 or £290 if you decide for 4gb , or £300 for 8gb ddr3
CPU : Intel pentium g4560 3.5 ghz Dual Core
GPU : Rx 460
RAM : Crucial 8GB DDR4 2133
MOTHERBOARD : MSI B250M PRO
POWER SUPPLY : EVGA 430 W 80+ ATX
STORAGE : Western digital blue 320 gb
If i decide to upgrade to a pentium in build one, Will that mean i have to upgrade the motherboard too? Since most Bios don't support the kaby lake processor. Which in turn would mean i need different ram , If im thinking correctly. Also how much ram would I need for games such as Rust , Minecraft , Tf2 , World of Warcraft , World of Tanks and casual fps shooters like battlefield and the like.
Should I go with DDR4 or 3 on such a budget end computer? On build two that is. Would it reduce performance noticeably? And is the power supply in build one reliable for build two? Would I be better off with build one and then upgrading a year from now to the latest pentium that comes out with a better motherboard? As I do see myself having a job within a year. All suggestions are appreciated.
I've also read that buying two sticks of the same type of ram is better than one stick , Is this true for 4GB ram as you'd be using the majority of it and false for 8gb since i doubt my games will take up more than 4gb worth of memory.
Will there be a noticeable difference between both builds if i was just using them for gaming?
Final question. In your opinion as a youngster who's been optimizing his crap laptop to get a solid 30 fps out of a 1.8ghz 5 year old celeron processor and 4 gb of ram , would i be better off with build one for now or build two. And which would be the most affordable.
Comments like save more money or buy used parts on ebay won't be appreciated as I'm just telling you what the build will be like. Not asking from where I can get the parts.
And yes I know I won't get a solid 120 fps with my chosen gpu. I'd be okay with a solid 30 or even a 25 at medium settings.
I want to be able to overlock the AMD and pentium to ensure they don't bottle neck the gpu. However it's not absolutely necessary.
