will i7 870 work on dell inspiron 580? (Bios A07)

I have a dell inspiron 580 pre-built pc and i want to upgrade the cpu. If it is not that worth to install an i7 870, an i5 760 would be good choice too, with an overclock version. i7 870 is supported by the h57 chipset: http://ark.intel.com/products/42700/Intel-H57-Express-Chipset

You are limited to the i5-760: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19428052 http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2105926/dell-inspiron-580.html I doubt you'll be able to mod the BIOS to overclock the CPU.

Hi everyone, I can confirm that Intel Core i7-870 Stepping code: SLBJG , works with my Dell Inspiron 580.

The microcode for this CPU is present in A7 BIOS update. My motherboard is: DH57M02 .

Before installing this possessor You absolutely mast update your BIOS to A7 or newer !!!

Xeon x3470 works on my pc. I am quite happy with that cpu. I have seen a huge performance improvement in gaming especially multi core performance.

I have noticed in some games including league of legends and cs go the gpu usage and the fps are bouncing up and down. Sometimes in lol fps go up to 350 then they drop to 120. I don't know if it is a cpu bottleneck or not. On the other hand on gta v and battlefield 1 i get stable 95% - 100% gpu usage and i play those games on high settings with stable 60 fps. Maybe because i play lol and cs go online i have like 70-90 ping.

70-90 ms pings is long, but it depends on the location of the server and on how fast your Internet connection is.

Well i think my cpu doesn't perform as good in single core games as in multi core games. Well i can play lol with 140 fps but the gpu usage is not stable, also when i set the fps to uncapped i can get over 300 fps but when fps reach over 250 fps i lag too much i don't know what is that lag and why it is happenning

Why not use Task Manager, Performance while stress testing a single core with an application like Prime95 (select 1 thread only)?

3.6 GHz is the max when a single core is active; 3.3 GHz means that more than one core was busy, but not all cores. There isn't much that you can do since that motherboard doesn't allow overclocking.
