Replacing intel stock fan, would I have to remove the motherboard if replacing with a screw on fan?

I found out my i7 4770 is running in the high 80s while streaming and I was looking to replace the thermal paste and the stock fan that came with it when I purchased the cpu.

Would I have to remove the mobo completely when installing the new heatsink? Or could I just screw in the new one ontop after reapplying the thermal paste?

Also would any of you recommend any good fans that have a similar profile/size as the stock fan? Im worried I won't have enough room when installing the new heatsink.

Thanks in advance.

You would more than likely have to install a backplate for the cooler so it can screw in. This would require you to take off the back panel, at least. The Cryorig H7 is a good start for the average person for a CPU cooler, but the Cryorig C7 is a low profile cooler.

If you measure the depth from the deepest part on your motherboard to your side panel, you can see the maximum height of a cooler you can fit in.

Well as far as removing the motherboard it really depends if your case has a opening to the back og the board, because you have to change the backplate when installing a new cooler.
but it will be much easier to do all of that with the motherboard out of the case, and you decrease the chance of breaking anything when working out of the case.

depending on your case is the answer, the back plate needs to get behind your motherboard cpu area, depending if the case you have is designed for such things (like a NXZT S340 for example, you wont have to remove the motherboard to mount it all on, but a case like the cheaper kind you will probably have to dismantle the motherboard from the case before you can put the back plate on.

what case are you using ?
