Blue screen of death from Bios update- but weird fix?!

Motherboard - ASROCK Z77 EXTREME 4
Version prior to problem - 2.1 or 2.2?
Updated to V 2.9

I'll spare you the details on why I did this and just get to the point.

Cause of problem
Updated the driver to v.2.9. Restarted computer. Received blue screen of death.

Steps taken to resolve
- Attempted to repair computer using OS repair tool. Failed.
- Considered rolling back computer to previous point but only stored point was from 2013.
- Tried the 'Launch using last working configuration' and that failed.
- Removed MOBO battery and unplugged PC. Restarted and it appeared I successfully reset MOBO because the data/time pop up came up. Launched with blue screen again.

Temporary solution (WEIRD!)

I have four hard drives. The one my OS is installed on is the C drive. However, in my launch order settings, the C drive is #3. My latest SSD 500GB HD for games, is hard drive F and this drive is set to #1.

I changed the order of my drives and set my C drive with the OS as #1 and changed the F drive to #3. This worked and I can now go to my desktop and it looks like nothing ever happened. I can also access the F drive with no issues. However, if I set F drive to #1 again, i get blue screen.

What's interesting is I checked my MOBO version when I got to the desktop on my C drive, and it says I have the new 2.9 version.

Any idea how to successfully roll back to my previous version? Should I even worry about it? Does it seem like I installed the mobo driver to my F drive? How does that even work? Why will it launch on my C drive with my OS but not off of my F drive which was previously set to be #1. Better yet, any idea how I launched it before this problem off of a drive with no OS?

Throwing out ideas etc.. Would appreciate any advice! Or if anyone has come across this, what did you do to fix?

Sounds like you successfully updated bios to version 2.9, which is what you wanted, if you want to roll back please read through the directions on the ASrock website, you may not be able to roll back, or maybe not as far as you would like.

As to your other questions.
Don't roll back unless you need to.
Not sure what you mean by installing mobo driver to f drive. If you are referring to the bios update, it's not stored on any drives, it's stored on the mobo.
Don't know what you mean by numbering the drives, unless you mean boot order in bios. Yes the windows disk (should be C:) should be lowest number on the list for booting from first.

Nice story...saying updated the driver does not tell us what driver you updated. There are several different types of motherboard drivers for 12 different operating systems. Can you be a bit more explicit to the exact driver you are talking about?

Whatever driver it is...did you try going into the device manager and rolling it back there?

Oh your right 2.9 is the bios. It is not a driver. This post is extremely confusing.

So, you say your previous version maybe 2.1 or 2.2.... My first word of advice while updating bios is to always do it in order to the latest bios version, dont just install the latest version. And if everything is fine, its better not to update bios. By skipping bios updates, there might be instability or problems or even you can end up bricking your motherboard. Some bios updates can even degrade performance like i remember the last bios update on original intel h61 motherboard caused a bricked motherboard effecting atleast 50-75% of users of that particular motherboard. The only way was to take it to the service center.
Although, you can try one thing disconnect the sata cables from the motherboard. Reset the cmos by taking out the battery. Wait for 15 -30 seconds before putting the battery back in. Turn on your pc without the hard disks. It will load no operating system found. Turn off the pc and connect the sata cables and turn on the pc again and see if it fixes the issue.

May sund unrelated at first, but wouldn't hurt to backup your data, it might be your SSD dying, specially if it's an older sandforce.
You may want to try a firmware flash on that to see if it fixes.
