Hey! I have this weird problem going on with my pc, i have tried using only 8Gb of ram in my pc, and also the 12Gb, eitherway in the system properties part it tells that only 3.9gb is usable...

What i have tried:
» unchecked the max memory usage box in msconfig
» changed all the memory settings in bios one by one
» tried different ram slots
»tried using only one ram with all of the different rams, every ram stick worked.

On motherboard it shows total memory 4080mb @1333mhz... BUT in different tab it clearly sees that i have installed all of the ram sticks (there is 4gb x 3 sticks of ram)

Specs:

- RAM: Corsair vengeances 3x 2133mhz, my bios puts them automatically to 1333mhz just to be sure they work properly together i assume.

- PSU: XFX XXX edition 750W if i remember correctly it was the gold semi-modular one.

- GPU: XFX R9 280x Double dissipation 3Gb Edition.

CPU: AMD FX-9370 8-core @ 4.4GHz

MOBO: Asus crosshair V formula-Z

Any suggestions on what it could be? I dont understand why my windows would/should reserve all the other memory i give and leave me only the 3.9gb every different ram amount i install...

Solution
Try this:

Click Start and type msconfig in the Search programs and files box, and then click msconfig in the Programs list.

In the System Configuration window, click Advanced options on the Boot tab.

Click to clear the Maximum memory and check box, and then click OK.

Restart the computer.

In the MAIN tab it tells: Total memory: 4080 MB (DDR3 1333MHz) but as i go to North bridge configurations in the ADVANCED tab, it can see Dimm1, Dimm2, and Dimm3 being used all as 4096MB, speed=1333MHz

When i built this PC 3years ago i bought the 8GB kit of ram, checked if they were all usable for my motherboard, and they seemed to be all fine, now i bought 2weeks ago another individual stick of the exactly same RAm stick that i had allready 2x in my pc

Yah i know, but as an answer to that, i bought originally a kit of 2x4Gb = 8Gb, now later i added the 4Gb more for the ram as a solution to try if that would fix the 3.9gb usable limitation, but it seems like either with the 8Gb or 12Gb it ONLY lets me have 3.9Gb usable... [watch your language]

issue wasn't windows, it your mixing ram. make sure you are only using the original 2x4gb kit.

There is 3 different memory options:

Load 4GB memory Settings
Load PSC Chip Settings
Load Extreme OC Profile

I assume the Extreme one is a bit too furious lol

Try this:

Click Start and type msconfig in the Search programs and files box, and then click msconfig in the Programs list.
