hello,
I'd like audiophile sound, from a sound card, for this htpc iam confused I've read the gtx would pass audio from its codec using dvi1 to hdmi, however if using a ht omega Claro II or comparable unit, will the video card be using its audio capabilities or the ht claro.

Why are you using the audio from HDMI to begin with? The Maximus II Gene comes with some pretty good onboard audio. Use that instead.

The GTX will pass audio through HDMI, but you can set the pc to use another default playback device.

Ok. To cable up the system, using onboard audio, which option will provide more detail
The onboard or the sound card, with an older 1973 sansui au7500 receiver I only have analog jacks. The television has hdmi video. The ht2 and motherboard has both line out an rca. Mobo no rca

Yeah you should be able to hook up the onboard audio to the receiver, just make sure its set as the default playback device in windows.

You can get a adapter for 3.5mm jack to RCA.
