I'm planning on building a PC come senior year, and would like to see what you guys suggest. Note that I need a complete setup (monitor, keyboard, mouse, probably a headset or speakers), with a emphasis on upgradability.

Approximate Purchase Date: e.g.: in a few years

Budget Range: $1000 before Rebates/Shipping

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, CAD, Work

Are you buying a monitor: Yes

Do you need to buy OS: Yes (no OEM)

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: no preference

Location: Greenville SC

Parts Preferences: I kind of like intel/nvidia, but I'm not adamant on that.

Overclocking: Maybe but probably not.

SLI or Crossfire: Possibly in the future, but most likely not at the start.

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080 at least. I don't expect to be able to run 2k or 4k on this budget though.

Additional Comments: Need whole setup including mouse, keyboard, and speakers/headset. Would like to upgrade the system in the future without to much hassle.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: current gaming laptop works well enough, but will probably not work as well when I graduate.

That's all, let the games begin!

Price is $1010.34 before MIR.

You'd want a good color quality monitor too, keep in mind.
@Everyone else, he wants a full USB windows, costs $15 more.
@OP, spend a little more, you get much more for the money.
I've put in a ten keyless mechanical keyboard, but if you want the number pad let me know and i'll fix one in. :)

I have no idea how to do that, do you have a link to a tutorial? Also, how important is the CPU for gaming? Seems like the money saved would be better spent on a GPU.

Yeah, while it seems I never use the keypad for its intended purpose, there's always those games that assume you have one and bind keys to it, so it's probably best to have one.

Edit: Do you have any tips for determining what is a good monitor?
