Scanned Photos Not on CD--Can I Retrieve from Scanner Memory?

When preparing for an overseas move last year and not wanting to carry so much paper, I scanned all my photographs and similar memorabilia into my computer--or so I thought. I was trying to put them onto a CD-RW disc. I recently tried to view them and was devastated to find nothing on the disc. With so much happening at the time I don't remember if I checked the disc along the way to make sure they were loading; can't believe I wouldn't have done that, but there's nothing there. So my question is is it possible they are in my printer/scanner's memory somewhere or could something have happened to the images in transit since numerous security screenings were done? Obviously I'm no techie and probably didn't do it correctly, but I really feel terrible since my family's history is totally gone. I value any info you can suggest. Thanks so much.

Scanner does not have a memory, unless you have a fancy one that does, some office scanners you can scan to the internal storage. It's 99% certain that you do not have one of those models. Since you scanned them on your computer, did you check the computer for them? Or did you delete them once you burned them to the disk, which is a very bad idea for any files, you never want to have just one copy of anything you want to keep, and certainly not on a fragile thing like an optical disk.

I've not been able to find them on the computer anywhere no matter where I checked. I'm pretty sure I didn't save them to the computer first and just scanned straight to disc. I have medical records on discs and flash drives but not a darn photo. So I'm thinking I might have done something wrong or somehow they got erased. If I did it incorrectly, wouldn't the computer have given me an error message somehow? I don't honestly know, and you are right, I have just a run-of-the-mill home copier/scanner so there mustn't be a memory. I do thank you so much for your reply.

The computer may not have finalized burning, unless you setup the disk to be used like a normal drive, the computer saves files in a cache for burning, then it pops up messages stating there are files to be burned to a disk. Or you may not be looking at the right disk, or it simply may have gotten damaged.

I can't thank you enough for your advice and I have learned a few things in the process. I guess I'll just have to carry those memories in my heart.
