You never know what you got until it's gone?

So i just got a 1060 6 gb, upgrading from a 960. I am also waiting on a new psu (corsair rm550x -any opinions on that would be appreciated as well). I currently have a generic 500w thermaltake psu that hasn't failed on the 960 for a year and a half. My question is should i wait a week to install the 1060 in case the psu were to fail, or should i just do it now?

Which model of Thermaltake PSU do you have specifically? (Smart? Toughpower? TR2?)

If it's somewhat ok, you should be able to use it in the meantime..... worse case, it fails & shuts off. Not likely to do any damage to your new card.
If it's there bottom of the barrel offerings, I'd wait.

As for the new PSU, the RM550X is a quality offering, but usually overpriced vs comparable quality PSUs.

For example, in the US it's $107. Whereas the SeaSonic G550 is $61

Thanks for the feedback. Any thoughts on the psu, maybe there are better ones i could get?

You're not going to find much "better" from a quality standpoint. Depending on the price you're considering it at though (and your location), it may not be the best "bank for your buck".

The G550 I linked from SeaSonic is a quality option, for (near) half the price in the US.

EVGA SuperNOVA G2/Gs/G3, Rosewill Capstone G, among others are going to be better value options, while maintaining quality.
For example, some US comparisons:

I can't seem to find the Seasonic psu you recommended, i'm from Bulgaria so that's not too surprising. Initially i was gonna go for Evga Supernova g2 550 but it was out of stock. I guess i'm gonna settle for the overpriced corsair.

This is the mentioned Generic psu i have - what do you think?
Once again, appreciate the feedback

I doubt you'll understand anything since it's in bulgarian. You could suggest me a few psu's you like and i can search for them.

google webpage translate, give us the link nothing to lose.

i doubt bulgarian is harder than chinese korean or russian.

Google Translate is a wonderful thing. Not perfect, but gets the job done.

I can't find the RM550x anywhere to establish your budget.... but I did find the SeaSonic S12II 520W.
89 Lev / approx $52

Would you say that this one is a better bang for my buck purchase? If so, i'll probably get it cause the rm550x is 200 leva which is roughly 100 usd

By the way, the 1060 i got is just a normal one (not sc or ssc). Since i have never overclocked a video card i'm kinda hesitant to do so with this one ( one top of that i just got it). My question is as follows: Is the difference between the card models only in the clock speeds and can i safely get my card to their clock speeds?

There's no guarantee. The chips sold in the higher clocked cards are generally better 'binned' cards, with more success in overclocking.

That's not to say it can't be done on a lower priced card (it certainly can in some cases), but there's no guarantees.
