Hey folks, I have an Alienware X51 R3 and I am looking to upgrade the processor that is in it from the stock i3-6100 to an i5-6600k, I'm trying to figure out if that processor is compatible with my machine and what I will need to do when and if I replace it? Outside of swapping the stock GTX 745 to a GTX 970 and upping the PSU, I haven't done much with computers so I'm afraid I am a bit new to this. I read online something about updating the BIOS? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Solution
The processors is compatible. They both go into the LGA 1151 socket I don't think a bios update would necessary. I would recommend taking a look at some YouTube tutorials.
Before you swap it you will need isopropyl alcohol 91%, a lint free cloth, and thermal paste (TIM) for cleaning off the old thermal paste. I recommend Arctic MX4 or if your up for the challenge Thermal Grisly kryonaut.
