Hi, my PC shuts down automatically by showing Blue Screen whenever I start CPU intensive activity such as video encoding. I figured out this could be due to CPU high temperatures. I have been using the stock CPU heatsink fan. Please suggest me an economical CPU Heatsink fan for my i7-4790k fitted on Asus Z97-A motherboard inside a Cooler Master K380 case. I do not overclock. I have CM 103 in mind since CM Evo 212 will not fit my case.

Regards

Solution
Finally I got the brand new CPU and refurbished Motherboard. With the CM Hyper 103 fan, the "new" system goes upto 40c on idle and 64c while video encoding. I tested video encoding for 15 minutes and monitored the temps. I am feeling good about it.

Should I be running any other proper temperature test to acertain the cooler, CPU, MB are in perfect order?

Well...The idle temp is over 50c and I do not know the temp during video encoding since as soon as I start encoding, BSOD comes and machine shuts down. Sometimes I got to see a "CPU Overheat error".

If u not going to overclock the Hyper 103 will be just fine. My sister runs that cooler on her i7 4790k without any issues!

But first: Make sure that the stock heatsink are attached correctly, 50 on idle sounds like one of those problems.

Another thing to look at are the voltage on your CPU. I many cases the Motherboards default voltage are set to high and can usually be lowered. Lower it will definitly reduce the heat and in that case maybe you can still use the stock heatsink.

Thanks. I will try lowering the voltages and see. Meanwhile, will the CM 103 fit my CM K380 without issues? Is it also suitable with my motherboard (Asus Z97-A)?

Maybe you missed my edit: Also check that your stock heatsink are attached correctly, 50 on idle sounds like one of those problems.

Hyper 103 will fit both that motherboard and the case.

Thanks for the confirmation on compatibility of CM 103 with my case and MB. I will try lowering the voltages. I have tried reseating the stock cooler several times using a fresh thermal paste as well.

Okay.

50 are to high even for the stock cooler If u are not living in extremly hot conditions :)

I have an update and still worried. I replaced the stock heatsink with s Cooler Master Hyper 103 (this is what will fit my case). Now the idle temperatures are around 40c and 88-95c while encoding using Handbrake. Are these temperatures safe for the CPU? After installing the new heatsink, the blue screen is not coming though. Something else is at fault? I am not sure how to find out the culprit...How much should I lower the voltage? I see different voltages mentioned for different CPU "cores".

Then your voltage is not the issue.. Hmm, do all fans spin correctly?

Could the processor be dying? Or the motherboard dying? I had just done a fresh reinstall of Windows 7 suspecting it could be malware but nothing seems to work. Or could it be a failing hard drive?

HW Info shows all fans that are connected to the motherboard. Maybe you have something that are running in the background that puts load on the CPU or you can have virus?

When I google I find many that have had the same problem when running handbrake.. I am not that educated in Handbrake myself!

I suppose virus is not a possibility since I have just reinstalled Windows 7 fresh. I will check fans on HWInfo and post here. It is midnight here. I will post tomorrow. Thank you.

Ah, I missed your post about reintalled Windows, my bad.

The CPU could teoretically be failing. Try and run Prime 95 version 26.6 and se how hot the CPU will be then and also check so that you have mounted the heatsink correctly.

Have a good night!

I think I got the same code which I have been getting. Right now I am at work, I will re-do the excercise and share the code/screenshots once I am home (will be about 6 hours from now). Meanwhile I checked my Processor purchase date, and it is just 3 months short of 3 years, so it is within the warranty. I will take the CPU to the service centre if all options fail. I have ensured that the new fan I(CM Hyper 103) is seated properly. Would Motherboard cause high temps and/ or bluescreen by any chance?

Yeah, maybe it can if the mobo are missing some drivers or so. But that shouldnt cause high cpu temps I believe, but I am not certain in that regard.

Ok. The Mobo drivers are installed fresh from the installation CD. Windows 7 installation is also fresh from the original DVD. The reason I asked about the Mobo being the culprit is that I need to claim warranty from Asus separately if that is the case.
