Hello all,

Today my CPU started running at 100 degrees while idling, this caused the pc to run extremely slow, not boot and blue screen. The computer has been running fine for almost a year with the same water cooler. I havent changed anything in the bios for months, I just turned it on and this happened.

I have done tests with Intel and they believed it was the CPU but wont replace it because its an OEM CPU. I believe the cooler is working but im not sure, while at 100 degrees the pump itself remained cool while the back on the cpu was extremely hot.

At one point the CPU underclocked itself to 0.8ghz and managed to boot, while at this speed the CPU idled around 59 degrees. I should also mention that the fans of the cooler where maxed out the whole time the PC was turned on.

I am just after your opinion, whether you think its the CPU itself or the cooler. Unfortunatelly I dont have any spare coolers or CPU's to test.

Thanks in advanced, Jamie.

Well the computer will boot.

If it was the CPU it wouldn't even turn on.

If you have an air cooler use that until you can replace the current cooler.

Go to the settings tab in Corsair Link, set to "performance".
Does this do a difference , if "no" then are you certain the block is sitting flush on the CPU,
with enough but not to much thermal grease ?

If your not 100% certain, take it apart, and reinstall from scratch,
hardware and software....
Fan and pump profile, must be tweaked to your needs....

Ok great, I have requested an RMA for the cooler. I can rule out the chances that it wasnt install correctly as it worked fine for months before. Thanks

The fans were maxing out and yes it was set to performance which didnt seem to make a difference. I believe it was installed correctly because it worked for months before just fine. The cooler came with its own thermal paste already applied so there isnt a chance I used too much. I think it must have been the pump that stopped working.

Just in case, do keep a heatsink and fan on hand, that way
if it ever happens again, you won't be down, until you get your
replacement cooler.

Happy gaming and whatever !!!
