Approximate Purchase Date: This week

Budget Range: 400-700

System Usage from most to Least Important: Gaming, Work (excel/access/tableau workbooks)

Are you buying a monitor: Not immediately. Have two 1080p monitors but may consider getting a 4k monitor in a couple months

On the way:

Parts to upgrade:

  • CPU (presumably): Don't know exactly what I had in my last build because my ex girlfriends dad worked for Western Digital and got me a free processor when he was meeting with counterparts from AMD. I believe it was this though http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K10/AMD-Phenom%20II%20X6%201090T%20Black%20Edition%20-%20HDT90ZFBK6DGR%20(HDT90ZFBGRBOX).html

Assuming that I might want to upgrade from that to maximize the GPU en route but will happily be told I'm wrong.

Motherboard (presumably): Old one is https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130274. Don't mind switching over to intel, and for hyperthreading I feel like I probably should, but it's been years since I've done any kind of research relating to hardware so I'm here to learn as much as anything.

SSD: Looking to invest in one since in my last build I only had an HDD (https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIAAEE46T6117&ignorebbr=1&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleMKP-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleMKP-PC-_-pla-_-Hard+Drives-_-9SIAAEE46T6117&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI16-j8ImU1QIVjXt-Ch0IYQD0EAQYASABEgLWdvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds again courtesy of the ex girlfriends dad)

RAM: This might be an absolutely stupid question but again I'm here to learn: Does the quality of ram change depending on when it was purchased? AKA does 12gb of ram from 6 years ago perform the same as 12gb of ram sold today? Old ram was https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231358

    ■ PSU: I'm assuming my old 1000W PSU will do just fine but, again, it's been ages since I've looked anything up. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171049

Do you need to buy OS: Assuming that since I want to switch the OS to an SSD I need to.

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: Not in the immediate future

Monitor Resolutions: 1080p (x2)

Why are you upgrading: My GPU got damaged when shipping.

Solution
You need DDR4.
Your old PSU is way more than enough, you're fine.
Wait until GPU prices go down again and get a 1060 around the $200 mark, or a 6GB version around 250-275.
