FPS drops after moving tower?

Hi, about a week ago I moved my tower from my first level to my basement. I moved my whole setup and I just got it up and running. The first game I played was CSGO and I've noticed a massive difference in FPS. The only difference from then to now, is that i'm using wifi at the moment (still have to drill down into the basement to run an ethernet).

Here's what i'm seeing with csgo up.

I've tried reseating the GPU, and RAM.
I have 2 BenQ 24 inch monitors and an LG 29 inch ultrawide.

I guess it makes sense, but I never would have thought that using a network card would drop performance that drastically

I'm not entirely sure what everyone is talking about... If you're experiencing FPS drops, then there's no way your internet is the culprit. Internet is only related to ping, not fps.

Slow connection speeds can produce an effect similar to low FPS, so it doesn't matter. Fact is, an ethernet cable is always going to ensure peak performance, and that's the first thing OP needs to try.

I'm just saying, if he's reporting legitimate FPS drops (like he saw that the FPS number was lower than it should be), then he's not experiencing internet issues, but a hardware issue.

I understand that, but when someone asks me why their car won't start, my first thought is "does it have gas?", not "your engine may be shot".

Despite his mention of fps, the posted image doesn't even show fps- either before or after- so it's possible he's generically referring to slow performance as "low fps". Not everyone uses the correct terms and sometimes you have to read between the lines.

The best way to troubleshoot issues is by starting with the simplest and most likely cause. We know for sure the one thing that has changed is going from ethernet to wifi, so that's where the focus should begin. There's no point in discussing hardware until the most obvious possible cause is eliminated.

I see what you mean. I must be a little bit too literal of a person

TBuente Your CPU and GPU temps are suspiciously low, unless you're water cooling both of them; unlikely.

I see that CSGO is loaded in your task manager, but I'm guessing that you're not actively in a match when you took those readings. I'm guessing one of three things are going on: (1) Your CPU fan/heatsink came somewhat dislodged and your CPU is thermal throttling, (2) Your computer case is placed in a position that is severely restricting airflow inside the case, or (3) Your motherboard has a slow CPU setting that is underclocking your processor. Would you mind doing me a favor? Download HWMonitor, run it on a 2nd monitor, and run CSGO on your primary. After playing for five minutes, please take note of your CPU temp and report it here: http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/hwmonitor_1.31.exe

specs: i7-4770 / 8 GB DDR3 / GTX 770 / Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD / WDC 1TB HDD.

Here's what i'm seeing

I did change my tower from under my desk, to angled on my L shaped desk. The back of the computer is decently close to the wall. I'm watercooled as well if that helps.
When I took that initial screenshot, I had been playing for a decent time. I'm getting constant drops all the way to 30fps. With my specs I wouldn't think that using wifi should really effect me all too much

I even tried lowering my settings to the lowest and it STILL doesnt fix this lag. Nvidia reccomends highest everything, but even with lowest everything the game is almost unplayable

UPDATE: So after playing for an unbearable 30 minutes of CSGO with my friends, I decided to update my computer (framework update) and restart my computer. I'm playing now and I am getting a nice 120 fps. I don't know if the update fixed it; however, this means it cant be heat issues or hardware issues. It has to be software right?

Yes, a software issue is possible- but that sure seems coincidental since you had literally just moved it. The best and easiest way to find out is to have your rig set up exactly the way it was before you moved it- which would be by using an ethernet cable if you can.

My friend, your answer is perfectly logical from a technical standpoint; I just try to suggest the most simple (and free!) troubleshooting options before suggesting hardware issues because I know first hand it can create stress for the person asking, since it's the worst case scenario. I didn't mean in any way to shoot down your theory and apologize if it ever came across that way.

Cheers!
