Hi Everyone,
I recently ordered a bunch of components off Newegg, Amazon, etc. and tried to build myself a working computer.
On my first attempt, the computer turned on when I shorted the pins, but turned off the moment I took the screwdriver off. It never turned on again. I had a busy couple of weeks and put the build aside. Today I decided to try and narrow down where the faulty part could be. I did a test build, plugged it into the wall. It didn't boot. I replaced the power supply with my roommate's. Didn't boot. Put in only one stick of RAM, didn't boot. Put in the other, didn't boot. So I assume the problem is in one of three parts, since it's unlikely I was mailed two sticks of faulty RAM: the CPU, the CPU fan, or the motherboard.
I am not sure how customer support works for these things. Should I talk to both companies, or is it more likely to be one part as opposed to the other?
Edit: added more details
