Hi guys,

Looked all over for this and there is no answer, cause simply no one wants to know this!

So i have my OS installed on my M.2 Drive which is less than 150 GB. I want to transfer the data to a SSD till i save money to buy a bigger M.2 drive. I have tried the windows transfer, and i have tried Seagate's transfer software and neither work.

any suggestions

1. It really would make more sense for someone to respond intelligently to your query if you provided a clear explanation of your precise drive's configuration and your precise objectives.

2. You first state you desire to (apparently) clone the contents of your present M.2 SSD of some 150 GB to another SSD but provide no details as to the system you're working with.

3. Now you indicate you have "tried using windows repair" presumably in connection with your present M.2, but even that's not clear. Why in the world would you be undertaking a "windows repair"? You had given the impression the M.2 installed boot drive is functioning just fine. That is NOT the case?

4. Now after indicating you were planning to clone the present boot...
1. What you obviously want to do is transfer (clone) the contents of your present M.2 drive to another drive, right?

2. So it's simply a matter of using a disk-cloning program to clone the contents of that SSD to another drive (an SSD that you desire) as long as the destination drive has sufficient disk-space capacity to contain the contents of the source drive, i.e., your M.2 SSD. I assume you know all that.

3. And we're further assuming your present M.2 boot drive boots & functions without problems, right?

4. You provided zero information as to the system you're working with other than the source boot drive is an M.2 SSD of about 150 GB.

5. Are you working with a desktop PC or laptop/notebook so that you have available one or more SATA data ports where you could install the destination SSD?

6. Is the basic problem that you're unfamiliar with disk-cloning programs? Or is it something about connecting the destination drive as the recipient of the cloned contents of your M.2 boot drive?

7. What precisely is your problem here?

  • So the issue is that for some reason cloning the device to the new seagate baracuda drive (1TB and new) won't work.

My Os is installed on the M.2 drive so i have tried using windows repair, seagate's cloning software. The M.2 drive is fully functional.

I am running windows 8.1 on an i7-4790, motherboard: Maximus Hero VI.

The other issue is that even installing the OS on the other hardrive - maybe i formatted wrong (not on my personal
Desktop PC at the moment - where the problem is) but never had an issue before.

It seems that I cannot clone from an M.2 drive full-stop. Or am I wrong in thinking that?

4. Now after indicating you were planning to clone the present boot drive to another larger-capacity SSD you indicate "cloning the device to the new seagate barracuda drive...", a HDD "won't work". This makes no sense in view of your original query.

5. You end by stating that you "cannot clone from an M.2 drive full-stop", whatever that means...

6. It would be best if you provide a clear, detailed, comprehensive explanation of your situation and your objective(s).
