Hi Guys, Im upgrading from an MSI H81 P33 v2 motherboard (LGA 1150) to an MSI Z270 Gaming 5 board (LGA 1151). I want to avoid having to reinstall windows, and from my web searching, I'm getting mixed answers. Will I have to reinstall windows 8.1 at all if I use the same hard drive?

You will loose activation either way, but since your going intel to intel you will just need to update drivers. Might need to contact microsoft to re activate.

I dont believe I ever activated, I still have Activate Windows in bottom right of screen, never had an issue

Thats fine if it doesn't bother you, but it will stop working sooner or later.
